The North American closed qualifier for the Americans Minor is about to start, with 16 teams duking it out for five spots at the Toronto event.
The open qualifier came to an end on Saturday evening, and it went almost according to script as most of the favourites managed to break into the top eight and secure spots in the closed stage.
Raphael "cogu" Camargo's Gorilla Core fell in the Round of 32 following a three-map series against James "hazed" Cobb's Muffin Lightning, who would be eliminated in the final round at the hands of Tempo Storm, who relied on a strong individual performance from Bruno "shz" Martinelli.
Immortals will face SoaR in the first Swiss round
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the qualifier was the fact that Mythic, featuring veterans such as Eric "adreN" Hoag and Todd "anger" Williams, were unable to secure a top-eight finish after being downed 2-1 by CLG Academy, with 16-year-old Zack "XotiC" Elshani averaging a stunning 1.43 Rating.
The top eight sides from the closed qualifier will now join eight invited teams in a Swiss stage featuring four rounds. The top five teams will progress to the Americas Minor, joining invited duo CLG and Liquid, as well as the winner of the South American open qualifier.
